The 9 Best Bird Cage Covers
These are the nine different brands of bird cages we have decided to review for you.
1. Prevue Pet Products Good Night Bird Cage Cover – Best Overall
The Prevue Pet Products Good Night Bird Cage Cover is our pick for the best overall bird cage cover. This model provides a dark color that is effective at eliminating the light inside the cage. It’s lightweight and fits a range of cage sizes. The material is hand-washable and non-toxic. We found the metal durable and well stitched.
Our only complaint about the Prevue Pet Products Good Night Bird Cage Cover is that it is a little on the thin side, and if you have a picky bird, it may not be satisfied that it’s dark enough.
- Hand washable
- Fit a range of cage sizes
2. Sheer Guard Bird Cage Skirt – Best Value
The Sheer Guard Bird Cage Skirt is our pick as the best birdcage cover for the money. This brand helps you keep the mess inside the cage and reduce upkeep. The material is washable and is available in many sizes and colors to suit any décor. It has an elastic top and bottom that hold firmly to the cage.
The downside to the Sheer Guard Bird Cage Skirt is that the material is not quite tall enough and can allow some material to escape the cage. If you go with this model, you may choose to stack two of them for better coverage.
- Keeps the mess inside the cage
- Multiple sizes and colors
- Elastic top and bottom
- Not tall enough
3. POPETPOP Universal Bird Cage Cover – Premium Choice
The POPETPOP Universal Bird Cage Cover is our premium choice bird cage cover. It’s large, can cover most cages, and the material is breathable and durable. It blocks sunlight and UV rays to help keep your bird safe and comfortable, but it still allows a small amount of light in, so it’s not completely dark. There is a handy door flap that allows convenient access to the cage without removing the cover. There are also handles on the top that makes it much easier to install and remove the cover. It’s also machine washable.
We liked this cover and believed that our birds did as well. The only minor complaint that we have is that some of the stitching was crooked.
- Large size
- Blocks sunlight and UV rays
- Breathable fabric
- Door flap
- Top handles
- Machine washable
- Poor stitching
4. PONY DANCE Pets Product Universal Birdcage Cover
The PONY DANCE Pets Product Universal Birdcage Cover features a breathable and durable fabric that is non-toxic, carefully stitched, and neatly seemed. It’s machine washable and lightweight, and it handles make it much easier to put on and take off.
We liked the PONY DANCE Pets Product Universal Birdcage Cover and were impressed by the fabric, but it doesn’t cover the bottom of the cage, so some birds will not like it. Our birds would jump down and make noise.
- Neatly seemed
- Machine washable
- Doesn’t cover the whole cage
5. AmazonBasics Bird Cage Cover
The AmazonBasics Bird Cage Cover features a very durable black polyester cover. The covering wipes clean with a damp rag and is extremely easy to maintain. The user-friendly design is easy to open and close and allows fast access to the cage.
The downside to the AmazonBasics Bird Cage Cover is that we think it is a little too thick and heavy for most bird owners. It doesn’t get enough ventilation and it doesn’t fit many cages. The lack of ventilation can cause some birds to tug on it.
- Durable black polyester
- User-friendly design
- Wipes clean
- Not enough ventilation
6. Alfie Pet Bird Polyester Cage Cover
The Alfie Pet Bird Polyester Cage Cover is a durable polyester that can withstand many years of hard use. The front panel zips open for easy access to the cage and it’s machine washable. If you have smaller birds, this can make a great cover.
Unfortunately, this cover will likely be too small for most people and is only suitable for a small range of bird cages. We also found the zipper to be flimsy, and ours stopped working correctly after only a few uses.
- Durable polyester
- Zip door panel
- Machine washable
- Flimsy zipper
7. You & Me Bird Habitat Cover
The You & Me Bird Habitat Cover is a lightweight material that’s easy to place and remove from the cage. It features an attractive pattern and ties closed for easy access to the cage. This cover is suitable if your bird likes privacy but doesn’t want it dark.
The downside to the You & Me Bird Habitat Cover is that it is thin and not only allows a lot of light to enter the cage, but it also reduces its durability. We also felt it was expensive for such a thin fabric.
- Lightweight material
- Doesn’t block much light
8. hi hide friends Large Bird Cage Cover
The hi hide friends Large Bird Cage Cover is a large cover that form fits the cage. It has an attractive pattern and provides a private place for your bird to relax and sleep. It blocks all sunlight and UV rays and it has a large front flap that you can pull up to expose the door to the cage. We found it easy to install and it doesn’t require any tools.
What we didn’t like about the hi hide friends Large Bird Cage Cover is that it didn’t allow for much ventilation and could lead to higher temperatures inside the cage. The reduced airflow and higher temperature may have been the reason our bird continuously tried to rip it off, but it wasn’t very durable once that started, and it quickly filled with holes.
- Large size
- Completely blocks sunlight and UV rays
- Large flap access
- Not very durable
- Not enough ventilation
9. ASOCEA Universal Birdcage Cover
The ASOCEA Universal Birdcage Cover is a light and airy cover that looks elegant and won’t reduce the ventilation inside the cage. It helps to contain the mess inside the cage, and it features top and bottom elastic to ensure a snug fit.
What we didn’t like about the ASOCEA Universal Birdcage Cover was that it’s very flimsy, and if your bird likes to pull at things, they will tear this cover quickly. It’s also not very tall, so there’s a good chance that some material will still fall outside the cage.
- Plenty of ventilation
- Top and bottom elastic
- Not tall enough
Buyer’s Guide: Selecting the Best Bird Cage Covers
In this section, we’ll discuss the different things you should look for before you purchase a birdcage cover.
Birdcage Cover Type
There are three types of cage cover that you may choose to use.
The night cover is the most common type and is likely what you need. These covers are dark and provide plenty of privacy for your bird.
Day covers are like night covers, but they usually don’t block out all of the sunlight and serve to provide privacy and UV protection during the day.
The catch is a type of cover that goes around the bottom of the cage and works to keep droppings and other materials inside. These covers are often extremely thin and do not restrict airflow throughout the enclosure.
Birdcage Cover Size
The size of your birdcage cover is likely going to be one of the first things that you consider. In most cases, you want a cover that will completely cover the cage to keep out all the light when it’s time to sleep. We’ve found that if the cover does not reach the bottom, the bird will jump down into the light and stay awake.
Birdcage Cover Material
The material used to construct the material needs to be durable, washable, and breathable. Many of the brands on our list use polyester, and we found them suitable. This material also tends to prevent more light from entering than other types of fabric.
Birdcage Cover Weight
Weight is not often a major concern, but it must be easy to put the cover on and take it off again if you are going to use it consistently. Taller cages can be challenging to cover correctly when the material is heavy or stiff. In our reviews, we tried to mention any heavy brands.
Birdcage Cover Ventilation
When choosing your birdcage cover, it’s important to keep ventilation in mind. Poor ventilation can make it harder for your pet breath, and it can also increase the temperature inside the cage. In many cases, your bird will let you know that they don’t like the cover by pulling on it and poking holes. In some cases, they can remove the cover completely.
A cover that your bird does not like will usually not last very long.
Birdcage Cover Access
Another important thing to consider before you make a purchase is how easy it is to access the cage once the cover was on. Many covers have large flaps or doors that enable access to the inside. The important thing is to make sure these flaps line up with the doors on your cage. If you are unsure, many brands feature large openings that might expose a whole sie of a cage instead of a small area.
Conclusion: Best Bird Cage Covers
When choosing a bird cage cover, we recommend one that covers the entire cage to provide a quiet, dark place to rest. Our top pick as a great example of a great cover. The Prevue Pet Products Good Night Bird Cage Cover is durable and has a front door to access the cage easily. It’s lightweight and easy to set up. If you are the type to spoil your pet, our premium choice is one of the best covers we’ve ever tried. The POPETPOP Universal Bird Cage Cover has all of the features as our top model and more.
